Is this what Christian computing looks like?
Will TV Rot Your Brain?
Dustin Stout had a great post this past week about Technology, Teens and The Church.
One of his big ideas, is something that should be foundational in how we view media and its role in our lives. From books to smartphones, its all technology.
Remember growing-up and hearing,
Don’t watch too much TV, it’ll rot your brain!
Is that true? Is it the medium or the content?
Check-In Solutions for Children’s Ministry
Any Church, no matter the size, should have some sort of check-in system for their children’s ministry.
My wife and I have been involved in children’s ministry at a few different Churches. One had 9,000 in attendance, the others, a few hundred. The importance of a check-in system was equal for all the Churches.
It may seem silly in a small Church for having a check-in system, when you know 95% of the kids you may see week in and week out. Here are a few things that you should consider:

Google Apps vs Office 365
I was talking to a web client of mine who’s computer was completely fried. Totally toasted. They have now been without a computer for three weeks, and it’s looking as though they lost all of their data.
All. Of. It.
Contacts, files, email – everything! Although they should have had a decent backup plan in place, few of us do a very good job of doing this regularly. Besides, even if you have a computer disaster, there are a lot of hours involved in restoring your data. Honestly, I have no idea how my client has been able to continue doing business without their computer!
This is one of the reasons I have increased my use of cloud based apps. My computer could die, today, and all of my files, emails, tasks, notes, and contacts could be accessed from another computer.
I recently scythed Microsoft’s Office 365, so what’s a good office solution?
Kids Toy Computer from 1972
At my house, when a laptop is finally dead, my children celebrate.
It sounds strange, but you must understand, a completely gutted-out laptop, makes the most incredible toy imaginable.
Unlike the Barbie laptop or Winnie-the-Pooh laptop, it looks real. There’s plenty left to the imagination. After all, it’s not like it turns on or anything 🙂
It’s amazing how fast technology moves.
