Dustin Stout had a great post this past week about Technology, Teens and The Church.
One of his big ideas, is something that should be foundational in how we view media and its role in our lives. From books to smartphones, its all technology.
Remember growing-up and hearing,
Don’t watch too much TV, it’ll rot your brain!
Is that true? Is it the medium or the content?
I say, it’s the content.

I am not saying I have the answer because I am still thinking this through and looking to see what brain research might conclude, but is there something fundamentally different about reading a book vs reading a screen?
As an educator I am still asking that question. Content is a variable that is understood. We understand that if we feed our natural man it will be dominant. But as for brain development digital media is an unknown variable.

A lot of people read more than every before, because of the Internet. I think balance is key, as well as quality of content. There’s a lot of crappy books out there.
Dustin W. Stout says
I think it’s the content. Just watch an episode of SpongeBob Square Pants. Tell me you don’t feel like you’ve lost a part of your mind.
Eric Dye says
Content, indeed!
