I’m not talking about wholesale.
I’m not talking about with or without a contract.
I’m not talking about the iPhone4 or the iPhone5.
I’m talking about the long term costs globally.
That’s a lot of phones and a lot of bucks!
Here’s the nitty gritty of it, this is where it starts:
Ugh.
Unfortunately, it gets uglier:
You can point your fingers at Apple, but China produces more than just iPhones. Apple is just one piece of the puzzle.
Foxconn is one of those pieces:
There’s more than just the phone. Apple makes some bucks with those apps … $1 at a time!
Crazy! Are you a nomophobiac? Find out!
What happens to all those ‘old’ iPhones?
Do you think this is a problem that needs to be dealt with?
What do you think the solution is?
Is an iPhone (or mobile device) really worth it?

They have at least one number wrong, and by a long shot. There are over 500,000 apps available, not over 5,000,000. The number of people who die from pollution in China seems wrong, too. I’ve seen pictures of the pollution so I believe it’s high, but 3/4 of a million people every year?
Eric Dye says
Even if the number isn’t that high, that’s a lot of deaths from pollution.
David Sheneman says
Totally agreed. I did a little reading since you posted this and there is a very high number of deaths from pollution as well as things, like cancer, that are probably caused by pollution. It is sad what we are doing to ourselves in the name of progress. 🙁
Eric Dye says
True story.
George says
I would have to say if it is so bad why does the chinese govt continue to allow it? Seems fishy to me… just sayin
Eric Dye says
I don’t think we can rely on the Chinese government to make decisions in the best interest of their people. Just sayin’.
George says
I agree but then the question comes to whose responsibility is it?
Eric Dye says
I’m wondering the exact same thing. :-/

The true cost comes if apple had NOT succeeded. We would still have dumb phones and would be working on a PC. Apple PUSHED everyone beyond their limits!! We need more Apples/Steve Jobs in this world.
Marek says
Imagine world without Apple and all it’s products. I think it would be the same. We are too adicted to technology. And I know what I’m talking about — i’m informatics student, but sometimes, all I want is to go away from everything, just me, silence and God in that silence, nothing can push you beyond your limit as this experience. In “normal” world, it’s pretty hard to heard him because of constant phone ringing, internet blinking, people shouting…
By the way “phone” is for calling, and even with “dumb phone” you can still do that.

Seriously? You can progress without standing on the backs of the third world.

Who cares?!! If you don’t want to continue contributing to this don’t buy an iPhone!! I love my phone and I could care less about all of this. You liberal arts majors have nothing better to worry about, always trying to get into people’s business!!
