I shared awhile back that I was running the social media accounts for ChurchMag by myself and looking to transition to new parts of the platform. At that time, I asked for a couple people to respond if they were interested in joining the team. I expected maybe one or two replies but was anticipating that I was need to continue running the accounts before at least another three months until we actually found someone willing.
Boy was I wrong.
I didn’t get one or two responses for this one position. I got fifteen, for a volunteer position. I wish I had this problem when I was in youth ministry.
I’ll be honest, I’m a bit blown away and humbled by the response. Again, overwhelmed. That’s nuts.
As a result, we had to pivot. Do we want to only have one person join our team or should we consider doing multiple positions? From here, I sent a couple of case studies and enough time for a thorough response but challenging enough that they couldn’t sit on it for a month.
What resulted was to clear front runners in Matt Fisher and Tom Pounder. Very quickly, I offered each of them an opportunity to join us and they accepted.
In fact, the last two weeks of social media posts have been them. We even have received some tweets noticing the changes and a huge increase in engagement.

I discovered ChurchMag two years ago, and have been digging into your weekly content ever since. To use Malcolm Gladwell’s phrase – I’m a maven. I love understanding topics and passing knowledge onto others. ChurchMag does a fantastic work of informing, guiding and leading our global church tech community.
I feel that I have a life calling and passion for the leverage of technology for kingdom mission. I’m a mega fan of ChurchMag because you hit that intersection in such an evident and insightful way.
