Windows users rejoice!
Back in 2010 Tom wrote a post for ChurchMag about a new utility called Ninite, and though the core concept of the site has remained the same, I thought it was about time we gave an updated review. I ran across Ninite after getting tired of having to install apps like Java, Quicktime, Chrome, Flash and Adobe Reader (neither of which are available anymore as was requested by Adobe) one at a time for every system I had to rebuild. Ninite has quickly become my go-to place for installing any of the applications they support.

The website makes it very easy. Simply check the box of the application you want and it will create a single package that downloads and installs the most up-to-date version. If an application is already installed on your computer it will either skip the install or update it to the newest version.
It’s as simple as that.
The best part about Ninite is that you can trust it will never reset your home page/default search engine or install toolbars/bloat-ware that typically comes with some software (I’m looking at you Java). I run this on my parents machines whenever I come over to visit to make sure everything is up to date and running smoothly and have even done a trial of their Pro version at the office so see if it was worth the cost to keep our network installations up to date. Ninite offered the same service for both Linux and OSX at times, but is currently Windows only.

If anyone is interested I’d be happy to do a write-up on my experience with Ninite Pro as well.

I’ve used Ninite mm any times before and love it. It makes multiple installs VERY easy.

No kidding! Working in IT it quickly became an essential tool. Makes reimaging systems SO much faster.

Had I only learned about this a few weeks earlier…great share! 😀

I know! Right? I felt the same way when I found out about it. I had JUST imaged an entire computer lab and had trouble with WSUS… it was a long day 🙂
