Metaphor. It’s a powerful thing.
Did you watch the video twice? I’ve watched it four times now. You can almost cut the defiance with a knife. But when I step out of the context of the bee’s story, and place myself (and my context) into the metaphor, I keep asking myself the same two questions.
The first question is,
“What is my red nectar?”
And the second,
“What is my honey?”
When I was a developer in corporate America, I felt like my red nectar was coffee and my honey was code. And while I never technically vomited up code, there were many times I was encouraged to just “spit something out that works.”
Thankfully, I don’t feel that way anymore. But many, no not all, but yes many of the people who show up on Sunday mornings in our Churches will feel this way.
Imprisoned.
Cyclical.
And defiant.
What is the red nectar they are forced to digest? What is the honey that is being extracted from them? And how, based on this information, can we meet them where they are, speak to them in a manner that resonates deeply, and represent the message of truth we hold with distinction and creativity.
Based on this video, I’m thinking, “When in doubt, use metaphor.”

Dang. That is SUPER powerful video. Mesmerizing and the message hits home pretty dang hard.
