Jesus says in Matthew 18:8-9 (ESV):
“And if your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life crippled or lame than with two hands or two feet to be thrown into the eternal fire. And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into the hell of fire.”
These are strong words, but as I take them and apply them to today’s world and today’s struggles, I wonder how difficult it would be for us to live out. Let’s take the liberty to change-out some of these words as it relates to online pornography—it might read something like this:
“And if your computer causes you to sin, unplug it and never go online again. It is better for you to go without blogging than to be thrown into the eternal fire. And if your smartphone causes you to sin, get a ‘dumb phone.’ It is better for you to go through life without status updates and Instagramming your meals than be thrown into the eternal fire.”
This according to the EMV—Eric Modern Version.
But in all seriousness, do we approach the sin of online pornography in our lives with this much passion?
Do we live as though are lives are literally on the line when we are online?
If there was any reason to put in place safe guards, use filters and install apps to help protect us from stumbling onto online pornography, it is this warning from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Just as workmen working on a construction site take daily precautions to insure their safety and well-being, we must also do the same as we use the Internet.
