Though most sites today utilize a type of single column, two column, or three column layout, there are a few niche sites that display their text is slightly non-convential formats.
Perhaps the text is displaying using a multi-column format, such as a newspaper layout, or perhaps the text is targeting mobile devices, or a more elastic design.
The challenge with rendering text in this format is that it can produce erratic effects in displaying the content. Hyphenator attempts to mitigate that.
Quite simply, Hyphenator is a JavaScript utility that automatically hyphenates text at line breaks. This will prevent words from breaking on a carriage return or from being completely moved down to the next line.
To use, simply include the script in your page and you’re set. The tool follows conventions of unobtrusive JavaScript, offers a public API, and can be downloaded from its Google Code repository.
