Many of us are already familiar with YouVersion, one of the better digital bible apps out there, but were you aware of their strategy of management using apps like Basecamp (we use it at 8BIT) and Highrise?
Nope, neither did I, but it makes a lot of sense and it’s a crazy-neat example of how well-crafted technology in the hands of capable and smart people can have amazing results.
And we knew that already, right? They’re obviously doing a great job because whatever they’re using is working, and apparently well-enough to get a shoutout from the 37Signals directly!
Check this out:
YouVersion is an online and mobile Bible tool for sharing your Bible reading experience with friends. A “social Bible” if you will. We reached the 4 million user mark in January with only 3 developers, one designer, and a project manager (while still maintaining several other properties).
We reached that mark with the help of a small army of skilled volunteers that help us with development, design, data management, and other tasks. And, to organize and deploy the currently 75+ volunteers, we use Basecamp and Highrise in a specific way.

Way to go guys, that’s pretty sweet!

Wow. Interesting to note that with a great vision and product, the volunteers line up just to be a part of it all.
