I wish that I could say that because I have been blogging for more than five years of my life and at least 2,000 articles under my belt across the Internet, that I have become some kind of a guru with crafting the best posts you would ever read. The reality is, I still have so much to learn and work on if I want to peak at my craft.
One of the most difficult parts of blogging is creating the best title possible. For an article like this, it is simple because I am sharing an infographic with you and the rule is to use the title of the infographic. For less structured posts, I find myself spending lots of time trying to craft something great.
The infographic below may be as much for me as it is for you, but I wanted to share it with you anyways. I also pulled out my personal top three tips that I am implementing, which can be read after the infographic.
Of course, we don’t want a ton of buzzfeed type blog post titles, so how do you take the infographic below and make something amazing for your blog?
- 8 of ten readers only read the headline copy, the title and maybe up to first paragraph. Thus, that portion needs to be persuasive, accurate, and inviting to urge them to read the whole article.
- People who scan only take in the first half and last three words of a headline. If six words is ideal and you want people retain your content, you need to push for creative and precise headlines.
- Numbers, personalization, and being specific are all ways to avoid a headline failing.
Do you struggle with your headlines as much as I do?
