I can’t believe that we still have to deal with “Membership Required” issues in today’s social and blogging economy.
Seriously. Really?
If I’m forced to become a member to read an article that I thought was awesome enough to actually click through to read then let me read the darn thing! Clicks are so invaluable and if you get people to even commit to the click then give them what they’re looking for!
Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

This drives me absolutely crazy. If you truly have the information I need, I'll come back. If I can't see the info, how do I know I want to come back?!? This makes my Google searches so frustrating!
Ok, mini-rant off. Glad someone else feels the same.

humbug, I can *sort* of understand membership to respond, but even that doesn't make sense. Cutting off your article early is like cutting off your…hands. (uhh I don't know why exactly)
But I like the model where you can sign up for super behind the scenes stuff, more community-focused stuff, but everything else is like a public water fountain, whoever wants it-gets it.

I'll take the other side.
It's their decision and blanket social media rules don't always make a site effective. It's possible that they didn't want you to read it if you weren't willing to register. Effective design is a case-by-case basis.

of course. but i still think it's fail. ther'es nothing to suggest that this info is revolutionary and that requires membership.
sure, it's contextual and case-by-case basis, but nothing on the site as a whole is showing me that.

Once again, this ranks up there with comment moderation. People need to stop this elitist mentality.
