If you have serious Photoshop skills, there’s a lot of fun stuff you can do. A friend of mine excels at Photoshopping folks into old pictures for instance, creating a mad mashup of modern day people with, say, Alexander Graham Bell.
Stephen Crowley, a dad from Dublin, Ireland and a creative designer with considerable Photoshop talents, took it a step further. He created pictures where he Photoshopped his young daughter Hannah into dangerous situations.
There’s a story behind the pictures, though. Hannah was born with a rare immune disorder, and she needed chemotherapy, followed by a bone marrow transplant. There were only three matches in the entire world, and she ended up receiving bone marrow from a German woman. After her recovery, she still had to be isolated for months, because of the risk of infections. When she was cleared, her parents wanted her to spend as much time outdoors and catching up on what she had missed.
Crowley thought it would be funny to prank family members with pics of Hannah in dangerous situations. They reacted with horror (apparently they thought the pics were real), so he made a few more. It evolved into a way of creating more attention for Be The Match bone marrow registry, the very thing that saved his daughter’s life.
His follower count on Instagram has soared, so expectations are pretty high for the next picture of Hannah. The best news is that Hannah is doing well, and on her way to a full recovery.
I have to admit, this story made me smile, but also tear up a little. As a mom, I can’t even imagine going through this as parents. I love how this dad uses his Photoshop skills to help save others.
