This is not a good sign.
Here are seven creative blocks you may encounter and how to break them:
1. Mental
This is what happens when we become captive to our own thinking. You’ve looked at the same thing for so long, you can’t see anything else.
Break It!
Start asking, “What if?”
Do something new, change your scenery, and explore new ideas.
2. Emotional
Your creativity may lead you to some uncomfortable self discovery. Fears, tears, whatever it may be, the creative process can be an intense journey.
Break It!
Put your head down and push through. You will be a stronger and better person after you make it through.
Not to mention the fruits of your creativity.
3. Habits
When are you the most creative?
Your schedule and routine may be hurting your creativity more than you realize!
Break It!
Be mindful of when you are the most creative. Change your schedule around and see what works best for you.
4. Personal
Good luck getting anything done if you’ve just had an argument with your spouse or you’re in the middle of something big, like buying a house or having a baby!
Break It!
Make-up with your spouse and get back to work. In other words, cope with the problem.
If it’s something that cannot be resolved immediately, try your hardest to adhere to your creative rhythm (see number 3) until the big stresses of life pass you by.
5. Funding
Lack of time. Lack of knowledge. Lack of network. Lack of cash.
Break It!
Make time. Find knowledge. Connect with others. Or go low budget.
As stated by the 99%:
… consider the first and second Star Wars trilogies, and ask yourself whether more resources always equal more creativity!
Good point.
6. Overwhelmed
Too many commitments? Too many ideas?
Break It!
Cut’em down.
Cut back the commitments, cut down the ideas, and focus!
7. Communication
This is when you feel like everyone is against your idea.
Break It!
Don’t confuse friends, family, team members and co-workers lack of excitement to mean you have a bad idea.
Use criticism to strengthen and refine your ideas.
