Just what the world needed.
Another code editor.
Despite my sarcasm, however, this has some unique aspects that should make it stand-out from the crowd.
I’ll certainly be keeping my eye on it.
Brackets
Don’t get me wrong, Coda is great, but I’m always interested in new tools. After all, it’s not like there isn’t room for a new idea, right?
The first thing that caught my eye with Brackets, wasn’t the fact the project is open-source. Open-source is great and all, but let’s face it, there’s a lot of open-source projects out there and many people interpret ‘open-source’ to only mean, ‘free.’
Brackets is an open-source project that was created and is being maintained by Adobe. As apps like Adobe Dreamweaver has lost its flair, I find it interesting they’re walking down this road. When I think of Adobe, I think of high-end, high-priced, bloated software, not open-source.
Here’s a little of what Brackets is focused on:
- Built using HTML, CSS & JavaScript
- Community-driven
- ‘Quick Edit’ “in-line views that provide context-sensitive access to your content”
- Design and develop in the same environment you deploy.

I gotta say Sublime Text 2 is by and far my favorite (http://www.sublimetext.com/). It’s garnering a lot of attention in the dev communities. Plenty of addon packages and great automation features.
