Hey guys. Somewhere I remember reading about a mod that could be made to the standard theme so that an “author ribbon” could appear next to author replies. I couldn’t find it on the standard theme blog, and wasn’t sure if it was on one of the 8bit network sites. Could you point me in the right direction?
Thanks!

That could answer your question, but it wouldn’t work if you had multiple authors.
If you did have mult authors you would have to use
http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/the_author_ID
to pull the author ID, so as to display the correct author.

I asked this question yesterday on the last Ask-8Bit, but I figure I”ll repost aqui.
Ok so is it possible to include a plugin in the core theme file, and put a checkbox on the theme options that says: “activate feature…”
Bigger question…Is that ethical? I’m not trying to jack other people’s stuff…
Jared Erickson says
you would have to integrate the plugin files withen your functions.php or hack it in some other way.. which would make it not a “plugin” I know woothemes and others use some of Yoast’s code (breadcrumb) and just give the credit/disclaimer to Yoast… so it depends on the license.. You could package a plugin with the theme.. and make sure they know they must install the plugin.. and say your theme supports that plugin.

I am late, I know.
1. How do you get your site to work without the www in front of it?
2. How do you change your logo next to the site to a cool little graphic?
3. When should I move from Typepad to WordPress and how difficult is it when using a theme like Standard?
If I need to wait until next week, I will follow the rules. haha.
Jared Erickson says
1.depends on the hosting company you use. but you need to change your DNS settins to use both the url with and without http://www.. most are setup to do that..
2. depends on what theme/site your using.. they are all built different. if you go with the Standard Theme you can just upload a jpg/png/gif in the back admin panel… the theme does the rest 🙂
3. I would move whenever you have some time to play around with it.. there could be some growing pains.. you should be able to export your typepad blog, and import it into wordpress.. but depending on your images/structure of each blog you may have to adjust each post ( or just leave them and pretend like you don’t care haha ) for premium themes (like Standard) you most have a self hosted wordpress blog.. (meaning you have to have it running on a server like hostmonster, mediatemple, do I dare say Godaddy) luckily most hosting companies have a simple one click install for wordpress, setting up your database and giving you a clean install.. then you can upload the theme package on the backend import your old typepad and your ready to roll!

agreed.
