Hmm.
I think I’ll just open the comment section up to hear what your thoughts are.
Personally, I’ve really enjoyed the original America’s Got Talent so I’m not sure why we necessarily need a Christian version?
Original:

Probably the worst thing about the latter version is the way that someone is advertising it:
Someone needs to teach that person some Twitter etiquette!
***UPDATE***
Apparently they didn’t “Get the Picture” and are still spamming people, and from different accounts:

oh dear. just when when we started to climb out of the christian subculture ghetto…
Christians should be leading the way on America’s Got Talent, not creating our won sub-par version.
John says
Some people like it in the ghetto…not me.

Just as depressing as the “Faith-based” search engines I heard about on NPR yesterday…

What’s next? American Christian Idol? (They’d probably need to replace the word ‘idol’ with something else.)
Christians should be where non-Christians are, not in their own little bubble. And Twitter spamming like that will earn a person a free ‘block and report spam’ click.
And is that logo really just text with a glow effect?
Patrick Woods says
At least they have a killer website and a solid marketing plan. I hate it when church knockoffs seem like a lazy afterthought.
Andrew Mason says
Yikes.

First I was like WTF!!!!
Then I just shook my head.
I’m thinking about breaking out my Spoons, that will bring a plethora of sinners to their needs and accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior!!!

We have a simple goal, discover and provide a national audience for the brightest talent we can find in America, without all the hoopla and bravado of other contests. And most important, provide a platform for the truly faith-inspired to deliver a message to the world with their faith. I hope you will join us, thanks in advance for your kindess.

I’m sorry about that typo, due to the late hour, in my last post, I meant “kindness”, lol!!
Maybe the editor would be nice enough just to correct my original!

Ugh. Seriously?!?!? Why is it that when someone lacks the creativity and talent to do something well, they just poorly knock off something else?
Random Side Note – What program are you using for Twitter in the screenshot?
G. Emerson Brant says
Hi Tim,
Talent shows have a rich tradition in America dating back to the 1800’s, we want to return to those humble roots in our competition by stripping away the “celebrity judges”, and bringing focus back on what’s important, the talent. We’ve just gotten started and you’ll be seeing many more contestants soon, hope you enjoy it!
Matt Phelps says
I see where you’re coming from with loosing the ‘celebrity’ judges. I think a lot of talent shows use them mainly for ratings. But you are essentially taking an existing concept and modifying it. Because of that the bar has already been set. And to be honest, I just don’t feel you have reached that level.
You should bring on people who will honestly tell you where to improve. My suggestions:
-Stop Twitter spamming. Now. You spam someone, and they block you, you’ve basically burned bridges.
-Get a new logo. Look at the logos for the current talent shows, and make something better (and not similar).
-Drop the free theme and get a nice, custom theme, that is better than (but not similar to) the other sites.
The last two will probably require hiring a pro.
Trevor Taylor says
And I will add to Matt’s list, STOP doing promotion that is based on tearing others or something else down! You do not truly rise up in life by tearing down and dissing on others. BE better rather than pointing out how everyone else falls short.
G. Emerson Brant says
Dear Matt,
Thanks for your feedback, much appreciated.
We can produce a new logo, and our OBOX theme incorporates some very special technology we designed and implemented for this contest, like our Z-Vote engine for instance, that is working well so far, but your comment is valuable.
Perhaps my message was misunderstood, we are trying to move away from glitz and glamor in favor of getting back to basics and focusing on our talent.
Don’t judge us quite yet on the “level” we’ve achieved, as we are barely two weeks old and according to our analytics broke through a traffic level yesterday, telling us that a lot of folks are interested.
I am always ready to listen to guidance, again, your comments are very much appreciated, thanks.

why would you do that?

the unedited free wootheme adds a touch of class. I think all Christians deserve a time out right now.

John, nothing like having your Twitter being pimped out to promote something that is a block of cheese.
