I like digital business cards.
Heck, I created a WordPress Theme for one (and it even made CNN’s homepage at one point. That was one of the largest traffic days ever!).
But Tom made one out of HTML5 and it’s pretty much the uber.
Check it out:
Pretty neat, huh? You can edit the fields and even the photo and then save the .html file for your own use.
Love it. And I love the inspiration too:

great example of HTML5
great way to embed your DBC into your blog.
Although I already have one from a Digital Business Card theme by some guy named John – it quite good, this theme.

Yeah – this was primarily meant to be a way to utilize HTML5 in some sort of useful way. Kinda targeted at people that wanna geek out with new technology and/or want some simple way to represent themselves online.

I see the benefit of the card, but I’m confused… where’s the HTML5 action? I didn’t do much digging, but it seems to be an XHTML 1.0 transitional doctype and I don’t actually see any HTML5-specific elements in the document… Maybe I’m just confused.
Jared Erickson says
the site uses html5 to allow you to edit the content, I believe using the ability to store data locally while making the edits…
Tom says
You’re right – the returned document is a valid XHTML. The HTML5 action is on the main page itself in how it allows you to create the card.
Chris Wallace says
It makes me sad to see <b> tags in there too. 🙁
Tom says
Word – definitely! Fixed. That was the result of using a CSS3 button tool.
Didn’t think this thing was actually gonna get much traffic. Just hacked it together while waiting on our place..

Awesome!
HTML5 RULES.
IE SUX.
Tom says
HTML5’s definitely gonna bring some serious changes to the way we build our pages.
And IE8 handles the site decently well, though I do think IE9 is gonna be the best release of that particular browser we’ve seen in five years or so.
Klaus Seistrup says
‘Twould be sweet if the generated HTML was HMTL5/CSS3, too! 🙂
Tom says
Actually hoping to revisit this project in a few weeks and ramp up a lot of stuff on it – HTML5/CSS3 included.
