We’ve discussed source control a few times throughout this site. For those of you that are relatively unfamiliar with the technology but work on a team that writes code, I can’t recommend putting your project under source control enough.
Recently, there has been an insurgence on version control versus distributed version control, which is better, and why.
The Programmer’s Stack Exchange has a terrific discussion providing an overview of both systems as well as a case for the distributed model.
Personally, I’ve worked in both environments and do not believe that there is a silver bullet.
Our team uses Subversion and have been content with a single repository for each of our projects; however, I’ve also seen the advantages of using a distributed system with a large team.
At any rate, staying up to date with what’s available, how it works, and the merits of each system is important.
