There has been a hand-off of sorts. A trade-off.
It turns out there is only 24hrs in a day, so as iPad users use their devices at home, they are trading-in TV time for iPad time. From games to social networks and email to videos, people are spending more time in front of their iPad and less time in front of their televisions.
So what are TV networks suppose to do?
These TV networks are like small empires, with millions of dollars invested in infrastructure. Property, equipment, personnel, they have substantial overhead at risk
This is ABC’s latest solution:
If you can’t fight’em, join’em!
Introducing, the Grey’s Anatomy Sync for the iPad.
The tech on this is soaked with sweetness.
Via the iPad microphone and your television volume, the app syncs with the audio and delivers content in real-time.
This turns your iPad into a second screen device!
This does so much, right, it almost makes me sick.
Hats-off to who came-up with this brainchild. In a world full of WiFi and Bluetooth, it was brilliant to avoid overlooking something like this, plus, they don’t have to worry about different timezones, varying internet connection latencies , etc …
I can see some huge possibilities with this. Not only from a game show perspective, but movie sales. Every DVD/Blue-ray would not only come with a mobile version of the film, but an interactive app that syncs with the same tech.
How would THAT be for special features?
Some sports fan apps would be great, too. Considering that games are broadcast live, you wouldn’t even need to use the sync feature (unless you wanted to insure viewer-ship). Pull-up real-time stats, watch instant replays over and over, connect with your fan friends via filtered social networks, you could even enhance commercials!
TV can survive this tablet boom, if they work with it, instead of against it.
