Skype for the 8BIT Team is one of the tools that we couldn’t live without.
We conduct all of our weekly meetings with it as well as individual one-on-one’s when needed. It’s an essential tool in our toolkit and so far we’ve been pleased.
Unfortunately (or fortunately…?) we’ve been unable to see each other’s faces during these all-staff meetings which I feel would be (at times) an added bonus since we are a near 100% virtual team.
But Skype plans to release group video chat which would be a killer addition:
Currently the BETA is only available on Windows (terrible…!) but it’ll obviously come to the Mac OS soon enough.
Another downside perhaps is that it’s limited to up to 4 people, which already is too little for our team (although dropping Kyle wouldn’t be too bad…).
But for smaller teams (and obviously grandmoms and little children with overly-enthused fathers) this could be great.
If you’ve got a Windows machine, would love to hear your thoughts on how it runs!

Sweet! I’ll test it out and post a review on my blog.
I gotta admit – when you said “although dropping Kyle wouldn’t be too bad…” I LOL’d. 😉

Technically it supports up to 5 people (terminology says you can call 4 other people, so 5 in a chat at once). Can’t wait for this to come to the Mac, but it’s a bummer they plan on charging for it down the road (to be expected I guess).

you win.

I think it’s long overdue… though I had heard they planned on having people pay for it once it was out of beta…
John Saddington says
