I’m not sure about you but I’m pretty excited about the new features in Illustrator CS5.
And although there are certainly more new features that are going to rock faces, here are 5 that I’m really stoked about.
Ready for awesomesauce?
Perspective Drawing Tools
Now cityscape and complex mock ups are going to be a breeze thanks to this tool. Allowing you to pull out your multiple vanishing points and grid structure not only as “guidelines” but you will be able to place art directly on it giving it the correct perspective.
Width Tool
I can’t tell you how many times I have to make custom brushes to tweak different widths. Now with the width tool you can change the … well width of any point in your illustration, logo, or layout.
Shape Tool
Select multiple object and make them into one.
Draw Inside Tool
Like a clipping mask… but not. The Draw inside tool allows you to select an object or text and keeps all your art within the constraints.
Bristle Brush Tool
This tool seams to do a pretty good job at emulating a paint brush bristle, since it’s still vector data I don’t see it taking over Photoshops new Brush tools.. but it is a step in the right directions…. Or it’s a nightmare of ugly amateur art.
So, what do you guys think? Worth the upgrade or hold off for CS6?
What features are you excite about in CS5?

Those are some great new features. Still doesn’t rival what Photoshops new features, but I like these.
Now just wish I had the money to upgrade
Jared Erickson says
yeah.. but Illustrator and Photoshop are two totally different tools for different tasks (although work wonderful together)
kylereed says
yes they are and do.

Personally, I’m holding off until CS6, or whatever they’re going to call it. These features are great and all, but not enough for me to spring hundreds of bucks for the upgrade.
I wish they would improve the interface.

Nice… though I’ve never really got on with Illustrator, perhaps I should re-visit it and try some tuts from around the webs.

oh man, that is awesome. Illustrator has been one of those tools missing from my set now I feel it’s absence even more, CS5 rocks.
