Project management in the IT space is everything. Or, at least will definitely seem like it when you don’t have some system in place.
It just simply makes sense and it’s how to get things done the best, most efficient, and most effectively. Luckily for us there are a number of great applications out there that won’t cost you a single penny and that have the capabilities to keep your projects afloat.
Here are 5 Free Project Management Apps for you, the IT/Web Guy:
[We thought 5 wasn’t enough, so we’ve posted 5 MORE Free PM Apps here.]
1. ProjectPier
Open source software rocks! This lets you manage a bunch of stuff, like messages, milestones, tasks, and more. Need some file management? It’s got that too.
2. OpenProj
Another Open Source project, this one probably looks familiar to more than a few of you: Microsoft Project. Like GANTT charts anyone?
3. Project HQ
This one says that it’s as awesome as Basecamp. That’s a tall order, if you ask me, but it does do a good job. Tracking of projects, milestones, tasks, lists, and more.
Maybe it can do all that for free…
4. Clocking IT
A free hosted app, this lets you keep track of all your tasks and the time you spend on them. Project management, collaboration, the works. GANNT charts here too, if you’d like them.
5. TaskJuggler
Simple and straight-forward you can do most everything with this. Tasks, resources, and projection of cost.

Sweet. I like lists.
But, dude, you’re totally missing the most awesome free PM tool around?! It’s the only free PM tool that could give Basecamp (and Backpack) a run for its money! [drumroll please]
Google Sites! It’s the bomb-diggity!

This is a great list for those looking to cut the costs of project management software. Our website offers a free version of OnePlace for project management, and also offers OnePlace free to non-profits and charity organizations. It might be of help to some. http://www.oneplacehome.com
