404 pages aren’t the most “fun” pages to have because it means that someone was trying to access your content but couldn’t find it, either because it was deleted or some random user error.
The goal, of course, is to not ever have a user visit them, but they inevitably will.
So, what to do about it? Make it creative and fun and functional, that’s what!
You can spice them up a bit by using Google Webmasters Tools and their “Enhanced 404 Pages” feature.
As you can see below, I’ve got a “creative” picture for the person who managed to get to my 404 Page but also the Google Widget provided by Google to try something else.
