This post was going to be a link to a “Top 25 List” of “Cool Website Techniques” but then I realized something:
We’ve taken the best (worst) from flash sites, broken them down into individual plug-ins and no one has really noticed.
We all know that we want our sites to “Pop”, “Shimmer”, “Glow”, “Add your own buzzword…” but we do not need to use all of these, all of the time.
Soapbox aside, here are a 2 that I feel are really good functional plug-ins:
JQuery Feature List Plugin
This plugin is used for Featured items in the product section. You can highlight the products and a small description of it. It has a the following features:
- Slick effect, no Flash needed
- It’s just 2K
- Reusable on multiple containers
- Cycles items via slideshow
- Can be styled with custom HTML/CSS
Nivo Slider
Features of Nivo Slider are:
- 9 unique transition effects
- Simple clean & valid markup
- Loads of settings to tweak
- Built in directional and control navigation
- Packed version only weighs 7kb
- Supports linking images
- Keyboard Navigation
- Free to use and abuse under the MIT license
Demo here, download here.
So check out the big list for all 25 plugins if you want, just be sure to use them wisely!
