We had blogged a while ago about the possibility of of using our mobile devices as payment gateways with credit cards and it seems that we’re getting one step closer with Intuit’s card swiping technology.
Intuit and mophie have teamed on a credit card-swiping iPhone accessory called Complete Credit Card Solution that will allow any approved iPhone owner to walk out of an Apple store in as little as 15 minutes with the ability to accept credit card payments.
Wow. That is nuts.
I want to get one just so I can try it out and make @Dewde pay me back after I go grab him lunch.
Technology is getting more cool every single day.
One day we’ll have systems like these for tithing! You can just pass one of these instead of the buckets.
Wouldn’t that be something…

I think it would be to slow to pass a mobile card tithe device down a pew. Our offering takes about 2 minutes to collect in a room of about 500. If we were waiting for just half of those people to swipe and confirm we would be there for half the service time. I think the better application for them would be low cost kiosks. Or have ushers with them available before and after the service.

I continue to be confused with how difficult it seems to be to make mobile giving a reality.
I’d love to replace bucket-passing with everyone getting out their mobile devices to schedule a contribution, but I have yet to see someone execute this on an app or mobile site.
I understand there are security risks, but it seems like there should be motivation within churches to find a way for a generation that doesn’t carry cash or checkbooks to give easily.
Any good examples of mobile giving I should check out?
I’d love for Fellowship One to build contributions into their API.

Here. Here. Brian.
I’m sure we all know folks out there who would argue that making giving easy for us takes away from the sacrificial aspect. Whatever. I never have cash, and while we have checks, I’m not sure where the check book is kept.
I’d love to be able to schedule it.
