This is a relatively short post simply because I really don’t know anything more about this software other than how awesome this software is: BoinxTV. My producer is the one running it and she’s doing an awesome job!
We are using it to help run the video segments backstage here at Catalyst, as you can see from these screenshots.
One of the coolest things is the ability to throw up a Twitter-stream into the video, as you can see here. Can you say “awesomesauce”?
Sweet. Check it out.

Great software! We've been using it some and I've been very impressed with its capabilities.

Hey ChurchCrunch! Yes- BoinxTV is total awesomesauce. I am stoked that it has worked for Catalyst Backstage to be able to encode some graphics, grab a twitter feed, and run archived videos in between live interviews and FOH feeds. I am excited to be able to explore it more when I have a bit more time- the features are great and very customizable.

I did a quick webcast of me playing with BoinxTV here: http://allanwhite.blip.tv/file/2674641/
I was just playing around with it the other day – we'll be using it for our @cityFest2009 livecast. I just showed our veteran producer (Bill Dolan of Spirit Media), he was so excited about it he wants to use it for live events for IMAG and stuff.
The twitter layer is really cool – but I think a better use is to have it in a separate box, so users can interact with it. That way you don't have to encode at a higher bitrate to make the text sharp enough to read. Fun though – the RSS feeds feature is da bomb!
They're all Quartz Comps, too – so you can hack the layers yourself. Too much coolness.

Thanks for linking up the test video – I read via the RSS and often I miss a lot of the great comments here on the site. How well does this software handle multiple video inputs, and cutting to a video (full frame) and then coming back to the live camera?
I've been looking at NewTek's Tricaster for a while – and I've operated (and serviced) their Video Toaster v4 (and have had mixed results) as both are still just a switcher built on top of and XP install – not suited for mission critical switching. (Although – a friend of mine who gave me access to his VT has turned his into just a camera paint box) using it to color correct cameras like the Z1u (which doesn't have a a CCU).

As to the specifics of your question, I'd say it handles those just fine in my tests so far.
We'll be torture testing it during @CityFest2009, so stay posted (or ping me after next weekend), I'll be happy to share what we learn.

I had this software as a part of Macheist, but my black macbook didn't have the tech specs to run it! I was disappointed! I guess it just sucks video RAM like a Chick-Fil-A Milkshake…

Thanks for sharing the backstage of "backstage"! awesomesauce indeed.

Hey John, any chance of a post backstage report letting us know what you would have done differently using this?
Brad_Parler says
Awesome – what are you planning on using as your interface, and how many sources will you be pulling from? I'm looking to better standardize how I live stream BarCamp styled (User Generated Meetings) the last two that I covered (Freelance Camp Houston & Entrepreneur Camp Houston) went okay – and people who couldn't be there liked it – but I was really unhappy with the quality. Other than the hardware – I really love the price point of this solution (much better than $14k for a XP box with video ins).
Will hope to watch everything go well for you during @CityFest2009

Coolness, I'll try and document our setup and let you all know. Follow updates from me in the video truck at @allanwhite.
The webcast will be streamed to http://www.palau.org Oct. 24-25. We're rolling out lots of goodies for this one…

Thank you so very much – I'm following you on twitter, and look forward to hearing more about the event, how everything comes together.
