It’s a controversial question, but why are we talking about it on ChurchMag?
Tim Lucas, Lead Pastor of the non-denominational Christian church, Liquid Church in NJ, has put together a YouTube video that explores the question in a morning TV talk show kind of flavor.
“On his web show, timlucas.tv (www.timlucas.tv), Lucas explains what the Bible has to say about the subject and whether or not a Christian family can participate in the secular holiday that tends to celebrate ghosts, gore and the ghastly. The web show video episode was sent to the entire congregation which has weekly attendance of nearly 2,500 people as well as being distributed across the Internet on YouTube and the web show’s video site.”
They even creatively use a Google Hangout to interview someone!
Another great use of technology by the Liquid Church (see what they’ve done before — and our interview with Tim Lucas).
Now, here’s the video:

So what do you think?
Can Christians celebrate Halloween?

Marcus Williamson says
For sure. As long as you hand out tracks when you do it 😉
As long as you educate your children on not taking Halloween to the extreme like some do then you should be fine yeah. And like it, be an example by not taking it to the extreme. Kids see and copy.
Also love the 1 Corinthians 10:25; 31 verses that they showed towards the end.

Solid stuff, Marcus. I love it when you share deep stuff.

I had to overcome a little bad feeling this year. My 11 year-old wanted to be a witch. My parents would have never let that happen. I was actually an Angel one year.

Eric Dye says
Ha! You’re no angel … just kidding! 😉
ThatGuyKC says
We celebrate Halloween, but we stay away from the scary stuff. It’s a fun family occasion to get dressed up and enjoy carving pumpkins together. And how can free candy be bad? 🙂
Eric Dye says
Free candy? Bad? I can’t think of a reason why. 😀
Calum Henderson says
The Centre for Public Christianity also has a pretty great article about Christians celebrating Halloween.

Love links. Thanks for sharing Calum!
Stephen Bateman says
My parents failed to explain Halloween to me as a little kid, so I was shocked when a witch showed up at my door. After that, the holiday was lost on me. 😉
Eric Dye says
Wow and wow.

I actually had a guest author on my blog on Monday to discuss this. I recommend checking out what she had to say: http://scriptedgenius.com/2012/10/when-the-partys-over/.
