Yahoo! has released a new browser — kind of.
If you’re using a mobile device, Axis works just like a browser. In fact, Axis was built with mobile browsing in mind, so it works really slick.
As the demand for mobile device web browsing increases, the need for a mobile specific app has reached critical mass.
Admit it.
Most mobile browsers are lame.
What more could be expected from a ported web browser?
Axis changes all of that.

Axis works great. It’s so mobile centric.
I’m wondering what Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Explorer are even thinking!
Unfortunately, I see something like Axis being a Netscape. It’s revolutionary. It’s great, but in the end, will die off. If one of the major browser builders did something like this for the mobile platform that synced with your desktop version, Axis would be dead in the water.
As you probably saw in the video (above), Axis has a plugin for your favorite browser to sync with. It also has a few other nifty feature, but honestly, a browser within a browser looks pretty lame to me.
In the end, I think this is “too little, too late” for Yahoo!
Is Axis a game changer for Yahoo?
No.
Is Axis a mobile browser game changer?
Yes.
Have you tried it, yet? What do you think?

What do you mean, “if one of the major browsers did something like this”? Have you not been using Firefox for the last 2 years? They’ve had Firefox Sync for a long time. They also don’t just support pretty much 2 devices.
Have you also not played around with Firefox Mobile? It’s actually one of the best implementations of a mobile browser I’ve seen.

I’m not talking about the syncing. I’m talking about the interface. It’s very touch and mobile device friendly.

As a mobile browser I can possibly see this working (looks nice, but I can’t try it as it’s not un the UK iTunes store…). However, to me their biggest feature ‘browse the same on all devices’ kind of misses the point.
I don’t want to browse on my desktop like I do on my phone/tablet – they’re different mediums! Like Windows 8, I don’t think ‘being all things to all people on all screens’ is gonna work. (and with flipboard having sources for most things I’m interested it, I don’t actually ‘browse’ much on mobile, it comes to me…)
Also I think (like normal for Yahoo lately) they’re very late to the party for syncing. There’s iGoogle, Readability, Pocket & bookmark services like x-marks already out there. Are people gonna signup again (especially as you have to use the TERRIBLE yahoo login system)?

I agree with you 100%.
