Is your laptop, tablet or smartphone used more for work or play?
It’s easy to blur the lines between work and play when your environment or device doesn’t change.
Seth Godin says,
“More and more, we’re finding it easy to get engaged with activities that feel like work, but aren’t. I can appear just as engaged (and probably enjoy some of the same endorphins) when I beat someone in Words With Friends as I do when I’m writing the chapter for a new book. The challenge is that the pleasure from winning a game fades fast, but writing a book contributes to readers (and to me) for years to come.”
So true!
This is something that I’ve battled with in the past. Do I master a game that renders nothing? Or master a project or skill that renders something.
I encourage you to read more from Seth Godin, as he offers a good solution to deal with the tension that can occur between ‘work’ and ‘play’ as it relates to technology.
Thankfully, I’ve found my footing and after months and months of pressing through, I am undoubtably satisfied.
