On May 27th, 2003, the first public version of an open-source project called, WordPress, was available for download.
With 8-years under its belt, more than 45 million websites are powered by WordPress.

WordPress 0.7.1
It was humble beginnings.
WordPress 1.01
By January of 2004, WordPress had inproved installation, a new default theme, and more options.
WordPress 1.2
Later that year, WordPress 1.2 gave us the gift of plugins.
WordPress 1.5
It was in February 2005, that the iconic Kubrick theme came with WordPress. Also added: Creating pages and posts.
WordPress 2.0
December 31st, 2005, WordPress 2.0 introduced WYSIWYG editing and inline uploads.
WordPress 2.1
It took more than a year to move from 2.0 to 2.1. The update included: autosave, tabbed post editor, and the ability to make any page your homepage.
WordPress 2.2
In May of 2007, WordPress introduces us to the world of widgets.
WordPress 2.3
September of 2007, WordPress supports tags and categories. It was monumental.

March 2008. Now, it’s starting to look familiar!

WordPress 2.5 was criticized for being “too different.”

This time, in December of 2008, the new user interface was welcomed with open arms.

Not a lot changed visually, but many new features were added, moving WordPress past being just a blogging engine.

Last summer, we all were happy too see custom post types and taxonomies, establishing WordPress as a serious CMS contender.

WordPress 3.2 is slated for this month. It kisses IE6 goodbye and features a new dashboard design.
