If you’ve written code in a Unix or Linux-based environment for an extended amount of a time, your probably spent an excessive amount of time in Vi (or Vim if you were using the GUI). That particular editor is usually the weapon of choice if for nothing else other than the shortcuts and keyboard mapping.
Though it’s not my preferred editor, I know plenty of people who still swear by it. And though modern tools still provide more powerful options, there are some that don’t want to move on from it.
If you’re a .NET developer but are looking to get back to your roots, then check out VsVim. Simply put, VsVim is an Vi emulation layer for Visual Studio. It provides keyboard mappings, short cuts, modes, and syntax highlight akin to Vi but in the context of Microsoft’s IDE.
Cool stuff!
