On the eighth day of ChurchMag’s Twelve Days of Christmas (learn more), we will be sharing with you a ministry that focuses on helping the persecuted Church.
Not just keeping us informed on what’s going on with our brothers and sisters overseas, but lending a helping hand to believers who live in some of the most dangerous places for Christians to live.
Open Doors
Open Doors is about supporting and strengthening persecuted Christians. Working in more than 60 countries, Open Doors seeks to help the 100+ million Christians who suffer interrogation, arrest and sometimes death for their faith in Jesus, as well as encourage the millions more that face discrimination and alienation.
“Open Doors has served persecuted believers for 57 years, which makes it the oldest on-going international ministry to suffering Christians.”
From Bibles to leadership training and news to advocacy, Open Doors is dedicated to the persecuted Church; a part of the Church that I think gets overlooked easily.
Websites
Open Doors is a good example of making a web footprint in nations of origin. Many times, websites are built to serve all languages and peoples. Open Doors has taken a different approach, creating a niche site for many different countries:
As you land on their main website, it works as a portal to their different websites, all ran independently.
Some of the content overlaps and is the same, but each site had it’s own flavor and feel that was tailored to each country.
Open Doors has also made good use of Google Maps’ API:
An interactive map that shows reported persecution worldwide.
Great job Open Doors!
This Christmas
Like many other ministries and causes, Open Doors gives you the option of giving a gift on behalf of a loved one.
Let’s not forget to take care of our own this Christmas season and support Open Doors.
