PDAnet is a free Android app that allows you to use the Internet on your laptop via your phone’s 3G connection through a usb tether. Surfing the web on my HTC Incredible has been a great experience, but there are certain tasks that are much more conveniently completed on a laptop.
Here are the instructions with screen shots from my HTC Incredible and my Macbook Pro.
Before you get started, connect your phone to your laptop using your phone’s USB cable and get started…
Android to 3G Modem:
1. Connect phone to laptop via USB cable.
2. Visit http://www.junefabrics.com/android/download on your laptop to download the desktop app.
3. After downloading the desktop app, you should see the phone icon in the top right of your screen and it should look like this:
4. On your phone, go to the Android market, search for PDAnet, and download it.
5. On your phone, go to menu-settings-applications-development. At this screen, select USB Debugging.
6. The phone icon on your desktop should now look like this:
7. On your phone, go to the applications and open the PDAnet app.
8. Choose the “Enable USB Tether” button.
9. On your laptop, click the phone icon and choose “Connect” from the drop down menu.
10. Your icon should look like this and you should be connected to the Internet via your phone’s 3G connection.
Step 11 is “Have Fun!”.
