Apparently Toshiba have announced a “Write-Once” SD card.
I think that this could be a cool thing, for instance for companies to give away SD cards with certain data on for clients, freebies, etc. But, who really uses SD cards for that purpose?
I’m not sure I think that these are that helpful.
Thoughts?

This would have been great like 5 or so years ago to aid companies with going paperless, because then you could through mortgage contracts, leases, and any other documents people get when they sign for buying houses, cars, etc. But now with digital signatures really becoming common and lots of companies moving to store less paper and using NAS and such, the obvious and large need for this is gone. In the tech field, I could see throwing a Ubuntu client on there for diagnosis, cleanup and recovery of a bad HDD just so I don’t unknowingly pull of any viruses.
I remember talk awhile ago, like 10+ years now, about them trying to replace CD’s and DVD’s with these things. The kicker was cost at the time. Something like $.07 to stamp a CD and $.23 a DVD, and cheap flash media was over a buck even though they could easily get more on it than a DVD. Consumer concern was then how easy it would be to lose their purchased software and such. I would like to thank the Cloud for making sure I would never buy a game, movie, software package or even OS that came printed on one of these.
