Kyle Simpson spent a great deal of time recently expounding on some great thoughts about optimizing javascript, especially as it relates to the practice of optimization.
It’s well worth a read (a long one) if you’re interested in making the very most of your performancing of javascript. Grab a cup of coffee while you’re at it.
Here’s where he lands though:
Don’t worry as much if you’re prematurely optimizing as if you’re immaturely optimizing. Burying your head in the sand thinking that JavaScript micro-performance tuning is a waste of effort is just as likely to lead to bad code as is being over-zealous and overkill in your optimizations.
And when it comes to performance optimization, I’d rather be “too fast” than “too cautious”.
Agreed.
