You know the code, you love the code, but where did the code come from?
It all started in 1986, when Konami ported Gradius to the NES. The programmer, Kazuhisa Hashimoto found the game very difficult to play, so he created a special code that would make it easier to test.
The code was left and made it to the retail version.
How the code was discovered is unknown, but other Konami developers like it so much, it was used to play test on many more titles.
The code was left in these games, as well, and made it to the retail version in the same fashion.
The rest is history, I suppose.
You can find the Konami Code in many games, today, including Half-Life 2, Mercenaries 2, Plants vs. Zombies, Quake 4, Little Big Planet 2, and more?
A huge number of websites have at one time or another displayed easter eggs when users input the Konami Code, including Facebook, Google Reader, Digg, Marvel.com, Gamespot, Netflix.com, MLB.com, and many more.
If you’ve beat Contra and some other Konami titles, you probably know the code by heart.
I do, how about you?

NO Way! Just tried it on Google reader…that’s crazy! Couldn’t get it to work on mlb.com nor facebook…but I’m sure I’m just doing it in the wrong spot!
Would love to know others you have found!

It is a sneaky little piece of nostalgia.

Sneaky, indeed.
