The idea of a person having a full-time paid job as a social media person for an organization seems almost crazy. You pay a person a salary to spend 40 hours a week on Facebook and Twitter? Really?
This job did not even exist 5 years ago.
I am writing this article from the position that I currently hold a full-time position as a social media specialist for a Christian organization, so I can officially speak from a social media professional point of view.
Here are three key points from the infographic:
- Job postings for social media positions have increased by 1,357% in Q2 of 2013
- Social media jobs can include the account manager, marketer, coordinator, specialist, and consultant.
- Over 5 million people have endorsements for social media skills on LinkedIn.
Is social media something that you would want to do full-time?
In a “you get what you dream” scenario, how would that work and who would it be for?

I would love to “do” social media full-time. Right now I work a full-time corporate job while also working part-time for our church and senior pastor as the social media director.
Yes, it does seem a little crazy sometimes. 🙂
As a full-time gig I’d love to work as a social media consultant for non-profit start ups and mid-sized churches.
