iPads are AWESOME!!!
I want one so bad, it almost hurts.
Almost.
But, I didn’t know they were THIS awesome!
Experts say the Apple iPad lessens the symptoms of [autism], helping kids deal with life’s sensory overload — in a sense “curing” the disorder, one parent says.
One out of 110 children are affected by autism. This could make a huge difference in these kids lives. Stephen Shore, who wrote the book “Understanding Autism for Dummies” and struggled with autism as a child, said that the iPad might be the difference between communicating with the outside world and being locked into a closed state.
There are over thirty apps designed for autistic children, but there’s plenty of room for more, since none of them support a parent or teacher to connect to the child’s iPad and participate with them.
And people say the iPad is just a toy … tsk-tsk.

I was so excited to see you guys mention this. My son is on the other end of the autism spectrum with Pervasive Development Disorder. He’s so smart but he struggles with social cues and some with communication. But he LOVES anything tech related.
Here’s another autism/ipad article I found: http://www.star-telegram.com/2011/03/14/2921049/students-with-autism-aspergers.html
We don’t have an iPad yet, but I’m starting to think we should get one. 🙂

With the iPad 2 hitting the market hard, maybe you can get a first gen on the cheap?
