TASER has developed a new product called, the Protector.
The concept and selling point is based on the growing concern of poor driving habits of young drivers. It tracks both safe and unsafe driving practices, current location, emergency information – and it’s all logged. Like an airplane “black box” for an automobile.
One of the big selling points is the Protector’s ability to lock down the drivers cell phone signal. By creating isolated interference, it effectively halts the drivers phone functionality without inhibiting any passengers phone.
I could definitely see this technology taking a cost effective form in the near future. A device that simply jams the drivers cell phone signal.
“In 2009, there was a reported 5,474 people killed by distracted drivers. Of those, 995 were considered to be killed by drivers distracted by cell phones.” – Wiki
If this trend continues to rise, and activist groups gain political traction, could car manufactures be forced to install a cell phone blocker as a required safety feature?
