Psalm 139:1-4
You have searched me, LORD, and you know me.
You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.
You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.
Before a word is on my tongue you, LORD, know it completely.
In the past ten years of my life, I have been living life by the seat of my past. I answered God’s calling to my life at the age of sixteen and since then have been on a crazy journey with God leading. I truly can say that I do not know what I will be doing six months from now and so make no guarantees.
For someone who is goal-oriented and desires to not be in the unknown, this has been a very trying time for me. How does someone who loves to be in control of their lives give up control to the Lord of our lives? Yet, the greatest joy I have found are those times when I have relinquished control and let God lead. In fact, my breathe prayer is “Lead me, oh Lord” from Psalm 5:8. Here are just a few of the times God has led me where I might not have gone:
- Not taking my first computer engineering job and instead, becoming a youth worker with Youth for Christ.
- Meeting my wife on a random whim.
- Leaving the security of 25 years of life in Ohio and moving to the unknown of Colorado Springs.
- Deciding to again pick a youth worker position over a computer programming job.
- Moving on base, something I never had experienced before.
Who better to lead my life than the One who knows all? I would have never guessed that I would want to do anything other than something mathematical nor would I have gone into something that dealt with middle school and high school or doing regular public speaking. But He knows what He is doing and I have been gloriously surprised every step of the way. Only He would know.
How have you let go of control of your life and let God lead? How did it turn out?
