SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) was set for vote, Friday, and was looking like it was guaranteed to make it out of committee.
Instead, the vote was delayed and may be set sometime next week.
This makes me a little nervous, as the week before Christmas has historically been a time to “sneak” legislation. I hope the delay has more to do with the digital grassroots outcry against this bad piece of law, than it has to do with slide-of-hand.
We posted about SOPA earlier this week on ChurchMag, and was happy to see a number of you from the ChruchMag community were already up to speed and keeping an eye on this Internet Kill Bill.
Since the battle continues, I wanted to share with you a cool link Jared Erickson posted last week, that is one of many online gatherings opposing SOPA:
I Work for the Internet
Have you added yourself to I Work for the Internet?
Do it!
This is what it’s all about:
We work for the Internet. We know first-hand that the Internet powers the American dream. American innovators have built the world’s most popular sites, selling products and services to every corner of the globe, creating high-paying jobs from Maine to Hawaii. If Congress passes the Stop Online Piracy Act, America’s most promising engine of future jobs and opportunity will be put at risk. Don’t stop us now — we’re just getting started! Tell the world you work for the Internet.
