Fun…I also saw a video recently where someone came up with a Kinect controlled helicopter. Not sure how useful that would be, though.

Interesting! I have the exact same helicopter, only I bought it off Amazon with a regular helicopter remote. It has 3 control axis (speed of the rotor/up down, left/right rotation, and forward/backward pitch using the tail rotor). It is a blast to fly.
The helo with regular remote sells for ~18 bucks, so it looks like you are getting charged ~22 for the transmitter for smartphones. I wonder if buying the helicopter and remote one could figure out a software based solution using the ir transmitter from the regular remote. That would be a neat hack.
