If you are looking to revolutionize the way you take Bible notes, you should consider connected Bible notes. This form of note taking allows you to connect separate notes and Bible passages to aid drawing connections between passages as well as remind you of past insights. It’s never been easier to take connected Bible notes.
The recent wave of new connected note taking apps including Obsidian, Roam Research, Craft and even Notion with the new backlinks feature, means you are spoiled for choice.
While I’ve settled on using Obsidian due to it’s cross-platform, plain text, and free entry point but the following guide has principles that would work for other note taking apps too.
1. Download and Install Obsidian
Depending on your operating system, this process will be a little different. The good news is that Obsidian has apps for Windows, Mac and Linux (with mobile versions in the development).
2. Download the Obsidian Connected Bible Notes Starter Kit
In the video I go through a more complicated set up that takes you from scratch. Now I’ve created the Obsidian Biblekasten starter kit which gives you an opinionated set of files that act as a framework to develop your own connected Bible notes system. It’s a pay what you want option so pay whatever you can afford or feel is fair for the work it took to assemble.

The first time you open obsidian, it will ask you to select a vault. I like keeping my notes on iCloud (as I’m a Mac user but can access this on my phone or another PC). Once you select the vault, it will open Obsidian with the files already loaded.
4. Set Up The Day Notes
I like using the day notes plugin with the storyline productivity schedule. I’ve included both in the starter kit but you will still have to go into settings, go to core plugins, activate the day note plugin and select the folder and template you want to use.
5. Start Creating Connected Bible Notes
All that’s left to do is start creating your connected Bible notes. You can either start by looking at a verse, or picking a topic and finding passages to connect to. Make sure you check out how to write in markdown and use the Obsidian bidirectional links.
Have you set up Obsidian to make connect bible notes?
I’d love to connect with more people who use Obsidian or other similar note taking apps. Leave a comment below and let me know how you are using it.

I’ve actually been using RedNotebook to daily journal for a while, but this looks much more robust. I’ll have to see how it runs on Linux (my main desktop). Thanks for the tip!

Awesomeness. Would love to find out how it runs on Linux. Let us know.

I’d love to know how it works out for you, Jeff. I’ve not got any experience using it on Linux, but I believe it should run as smooth as chrome does.
