This is just a sad story but the parallels between Samsung and their new Bada OS and the Church are too close not to miss.
Most people probably haven’t even heard of the Bada OS and one of the first mobile handsets called the “Samsung Wave” (Google Wave anyone?) and there’s a high probability that this might be the last time you hear about it too.
It’s just crazy to me that Samsung a reputable company, would launch a new OS into an ecosystem that’s already completely saturated (and dominated) by the likes of Apple, Blackberry, and Droid.
But it get even better (and more confusing)…
You see, Samsung already has publicly announced that more than 50% of their devices will run the Android OS by Google!
So, not only is Samsung competing against an already-stacked market, they’re competing with themselves.
Wow.
[Love the tagline…]
You can already probably see the parallels between this way of thinking and how we do Church and ministry at times. It’s tragic to see so many ministries and denomination (besides the divides) completely cannibalize itself by creating a world of self-competition that provide no significant movement forward or creation of value.
Spurred by ego, perhaps? Or maybe it is a belief that current systems and organizations won’t stay #1 for ever (although it’s not completely the same challenge…)?
In any case, I just see this as a pretty ridiculous move by Samsung and I won’t be buying a Samsung Wave anytime soon.
Thoughts?

good thoughts here john.
it’s so easy to create a new ecosystem, esp if you have serious resources like samsung, and i would say many churches.
a desire to be in control and a fear of diminishing alignment often keep me from contributing to the greater ecosystem.
i ran into a corporate executive from sony ericsson at web 2.0 in ny and he had a similar mindset as samsung. he wanted to lure developers to build apps but did not want to give/share anything valuable to them for their efforts–and he was frustrated more people weren’t doing it!
