This is a very interesting strategy for fund raising: Celebrities “kill” their online accounts (like Twitter) until a certain amount of money is raised so that it can be “raised” back to life.
Check out Alicia Keys:
So far over $20,000 has been raised so that people can hear Alicia tweet? Wow. Fascinating.
You can check it out here and here.
There’s something that makes me feel weird about “digital deaths”.

Interesting idea… but it creeps me out. Those pictures are weird.
Chris Rouse says
The irony is that I don’t want to donate to bring celebrities “back to life” on Twitter but I’d want to help save lives. Can we create a new campaign to raise money for a similar organization that keeps some celebrities off of twitter?
JayCaruso says
Honestly, I think this whole campaign is idiotic and it once again reveals just how narcissistic these people are because they sit around thinking their fans are saying, “Oh no! Lady Gaga isn’t going to tweet about her eyelashes falling into her coffee until we raise a ton of money for AIDS research! Let’s go!!”
The better thing would have been for them to harness the power of Twitter in a way like Shaun King has done. Had Lady Gaga and the others used Twitter as a means for encouraging their followers in between their vapid tweets to donate money to this organization, they would have hit their target already. Instead, as of 7:00pm yesterday, they had raised a total of $70,000.
In addition, the organization itself has made a fundamental miscalculation in making the minimum donation $10. That is actually going to keep some people from donating.
