I once watched a TV show which was a “reality TV” type thing all about going on an extreme detox. Most of the show was based in a retreat up in the mountains in a far away country. One of the things that the people on the detox had to do daily was drink their pee.
Now, I am all up for putting pee to good use – but there must be a better way.
Enter the pee-powered battery. Actually it’s real name is the MetalCell.
Designed by a South Korean company, the MetalCell is intended as a portable device to help charge electronic equipment in situations where getting electricity easily wouldn’t normally be an option.
The MetalCell is actually hugely powerful, especially considering that it is powered by a waste product! It will keep a laptop charged for over 4 hours!
So, how does it work? Well, as well as pee, the MetalCell can be powered with saltwater also. It contains two magnesium plates which react with sodium to produce electricity! Clever!
Just think – if the power of pee could be harnessed on a larger scale – maybe some of the energy problems that we are going to be facing in the coming decades could be reduced somewhat.
What do you think?

Give them a few years to build an industrial size model for the sewage treatment facilities & septic tanks, then we can talk…

Yeh, that would be amazing!
