Most Olympic opening ceremonies are a little — meh — but this one was actually pretty cool.
(Either that or I’m getting way old.)
But what I want to know is this:
Was the opening ceremony really a Lord of the Rings tribute?
Look and decide:
Hmmm.

LOTR was a “mythology” for GB…but I must have skipped the part of the films where the 100 Mary Poppins show up and thwart Sauron.

As a Brit I LOVED IT! I also must follow a bunch of LOTR fans because my twitter feed was full of hobbit type references (and my tweet ‘Was Hobbiton now Isengard!’ was re-tweeted a couple of times)!
I’m sure Danny Boyle meant to tell the story of the UK (both good and bad) with our un-official mythology as a background theme – heck he even forged the rings together… and put the place on top of Bagshot Row!
Fab stuff and best opening ceremony ever – although I don’t remember a parachuting head of state in LOTR…
