When’s the last time you used a pay phone?
It may have been a while since you even saw or noticed one!
New York City is part of a pilot program that will convert 250 pay phones with a 32″ ad-supported touch screen, complete with web and email access, as well as a Wi-Fi hotspot for device use and built-in cameras for Skyping.
Good or bad idea?
If the program is a success, the fully-ad supported smartphone booths will replace the city’s 12,800 pay phones. For those of you worried about germs, this is a touch screen after all, the touch displays have not nooks for gunk, unlike phone handsets, and they’re designed to be hosed down.
Is this a good example of building on an established infrastructure or a complete FAIL?

i think its weird.. who wants to stand in the middle of the general public checking email or skyping while anyone walking by can see or read your email…
Also i find it compical it about touchscreens and the add on the side of the booth is for the ipad…
