“Simply put, the iPad demands that we completely reimagine our craft,” Murdoch said in explaining why News Corp. chose to create a new brand from scratch.
The Daily, he said, will cater to consumers who no longer subscribe to newspapers, and who feel that news on the web is too targeted, exposing them only to the stories they were looking for.
“What we are losing today are the opportunities for true news discovery,” he said. “The magic of newspapers, and of the best blogs, lies in surprise and the deft touch of a great editor.”

Currently it’s free but it’ll be subscription-based long term for $39.99 a year (or $.99 cents a week).
Will it be a “game changer”? Not so sure yet.
