The team and I were recently discussing various forms of NoSQL database systems and options and implementations are on the rise – we’ve even covered it here on Code and on IT.
The thing is, the technology has already been in place for a couple of years. CouchDB is perhaps one of the forerunners of said technology.
The guys over at CouchOne.com have provided a great tutorial on how to migrate an existing MySQL database system to CouchDB.
As with any set of technologies, there are always trade offs in the various systems that you use in your application. Simply migrating something for the sake of migrating – especially at the production level – may not be worth.
If you’re doing this for something other than for fun, make sure it’s for the right reasons :).

We decided to go with SimpleDB from Amazon and absolutely love it. However, the use of SimpleDB really depends (from a performance standpoint) on choosing AWS as your platform.
